Rob Harries
Educated a Hornsey College of Art 1965-69. Further education at Great George's community Arts Project in Liverpool and then several years in the Community Arts running Harry's Big Balloonz (A children's play project with giant inflatables to jump on.) A lucky break came along to work on the manufacture of some stage inflatables for the Pink Floyd. Air Artists (as we were now known) went on to make inflatable props, costumes and scenery for top pop bands as well as tv shows, films, inflatables for circus and promotions of all sorts.
I have now retired from the commercial world and have developed a keen interest in making figurative sculpture in clay. My practice is informed by weekly life sculpture sessions and life drawing. Ideas from these sessions become large slab built figures in clay, fired to stoneware. I am influenced by the figurative sculpture of the Mexican Artist Javier Marin.
