Michael Knights
Following good A level results in Art at school I trained in architecture and town planning at 2 art schools in the 1960’s, Hammersmith Art College and then Nottingham Art College (later Trent Polytechnic)
I worked mainly with historic buildings and conservation areas during my working life and had little time for painting or drawing other than plans and sketches linked to the built environment. But I did have the opportunity and time to study traditional paints and their uses and have been a member of the Traditional Paint Forum for some years www.traditionalpaintforum.org.uk
Since retiring 10 years ago I have at last the chance to pursue and hone my drawing and painting skills via local life drawing classes and through the Black Dog Arts group and various other classes in Bungay and Norwich. Water colour is my preferred medium but recently I have begun using water soluble oils. I continue attending two art sessions a week drawing and experimenting with other techniques including Gelli Printing, lino cutting and other crafts.
I have been inspired by many artists like Edward Seago and John Cotman but also local artists like Mary Spicer, Sara Johnson, Trevor Osborne, Malcolm Cudmore and Diana McKenna.
